How the Lampstand app and website handle information, and the choices you have.

Effective November 5, 2026 · Lampstand TestFlight beta

Lampstand is developed by David Hurley. It helps you ask questions about Scripture, create studies, and follow reading plans. This page describes the current beta’s data handling.

Your local library

Saved answers, generated studies, selected source samples, reading progress, and personal reflection notes are stored in the app’s local storage. Lampstand does not provide an account or cloud library synchronization in this beta. Device backups are controlled by your Apple settings.

When you use AI

After you consent in the app, an AI request sends your prompt, selected study preferences, selected source material or pasted samples, and relevant conversation context to Lampstand’s service on Vercel. The service sends that request to OpenAI through Vercel AI Gateway. User-selected public web pages may be retrieved to provide source context. Your private reflection notes are not included automatically.

Avoid putting sensitive personal information in prompts or source samples. The app’s AI opt-in can be revoked in Settings. You can continue to use included offline Scripture and starter studies.

Service providers and diagnostics

Vercel and OpenAI process requests to operate and protect their services. Their retention and privacy practices apply. Our application does not deliberately log prompt bodies, pasted samples, or reflection notes; hosting services may process request metadata such as network addresses. Apple’s TestFlight may collect beta usage, crash, and feedback information under its own policies.

Bible reading and external sites

ESV reading opens Crossway’s official website in an in-app Safari reader. The selected Bible reference and ordinary browser request information are sent to that site, which handles the reading session under its own policies. Lampstand does not send your AI question or private notes to Crossway. WEB Scripture remains available offline. Opening source links or YouVersion links similarly connects to the selected external service.

Sharing and reminders

Sharing a study or exporting a library is initiated by you through the iOS Share Sheet. The destination you choose handles the shared information. Shared text or links sent into Lampstand are saved on the device for review. For a shared verse image without text, Apple Vision recognizes text on the device for you to review and edit before saving; Lampstand does not upload the image or automatically send an AI request. Optional reading reminders are scheduled locally through iOS notifications.

Your choices

In Settings, you can export your local library, delete local studies, answers, sources, notes and reading progress, turn off AI processing, and disable reminders. Deleting local information does not recall copies you previously shared or change a service provider’s existing retention obligations. Deleting app data also does not independently remove Apple-managed backups.

The website code does not add advertising or third-party analytics scripts. Site hosting and delivery providers, including OpenAI Sites and Cloudflare, may process network addresses, browser details, and service diagnostics under their policies. Hosting providers may also set cookies used for security and bot protection. The beta-access link opens your email app; if you send an email, its contents and your email address are used to respond and administer the request. Messages are kept as needed to handle the correspondence and applicable service obligations; contact us to request deletion. Provider-managed logs and already-shared copies may follow separate retention rules.
